Principal Advisor – Smart Cities with SMEC
Dorte Ekelund has more than 30 years’ experience in infrastructure planning across all levels of government and across various jurisdictions.
After starting her career as a trainee planner at Shellharbour Council, she is currently working as a principal advisor on Smart Cities for SMEC.
In 2008, she was appointed executive director of the Major Cities Unit for the Federal Government, with a focus on Australia’s 18 major cities with populations over 100,000 people.
She later served for four years as director-general for Environment and Planning for the ACT Government.
That role was the start of her involvement with the SMART Infrastructure Facility as it was being set up. She was a speaker at the inaugural ISNGI conference in 2013.
Her appointment to the SMART Advisory Council comes as she rebalances her career to include a mix of paid and advisory roles.
She and her partner divide their time between Canberra and Wollongong.
