Tania Brown is the Chief Operating Officer at the SMART Infrastructure Facility with responsibility for the day to day operations of this $62 million facility. She also has responsibility for managing budgetary and financial issues, data management, facility promotion and business attraction. A key component is managing stakeholder relations and attracting investment to the Facility.
Prior to joining the University of Wollongong in 2009, Tania spent 13 years working for State and Federal Governments. Her role as a Senior Ministerial Policy Advisor saw her dealing with the development, implementation and communication of government policies in a range of areas. This has given her added insight and experience into the importance of community consultation and engagement, something in which she has become highly skilled.
Her depth of understanding of the multiple Government tiers is highly regarded as is her extensive networks with media and business players. Her career has provided a depth of understanding of the mechanics and importance of good corporate governance.
In 2011 Tania was invited to serve on the Regional Development Australia (lllawarra) High Speed Rail Working Party to gather evidence and develop a strategic direction for the inclusion of Wollongong in a high speed rail network.
Tania is an active member of the Illawarra community serving as a foundation member of the Illawarra International Women’s Day (IWD) Committee from 2006 – 2008, is a current member of the NBCF Illawarra Committee and in 2011 was elected to the Board of Directors of the Wollongong NRE Hawks. In 2013 Tania was elected to the Board of Destination Wollongong.
