SMART Infrastructure Facility University Postgraduate Awards

The SMART Infrastructure Facility at the University of Wollongong is offering postgraduate scholarships within the following six research themes:

  • Model Based System Engineering for Infrastructure Projects, for candidates with a background in:
    • Systems Engineering
  • Agent Based Modelling for Contract Design and Execution, for candidates with a background in:
    • Behavioural Sciences,
    • Decision Sciences, or
    • Land-use Planning
  • Semi-empirical approach to validate massive social simulations, for candidates with a background in:
    • Quantitative Sociology, or
    • Social Modelling.
  • Developing a semantic framework for integrated infrastructure analytics, for candidates with a background in:
    • Computational Semantics, or
    • Computational Semiotics.
  • Auditing, Reporting, Transparency, Risk Allocation and Process Learning, for candidates with a background in:
    • Organisational Sociology,
    • Behavioural Decision Making, or
    • Project Management.
  • Ensuring efficient investment in, and use of, infrastructure, for candidates with a background in:
    • Operational Research,
    • Public Economics,
    • Economics of Regulation,
    • Applied Microeconomics,
    • Urban Economics,
    • Industrial Organisation, or
    • Cost Benefit Analysis.

These awards are tenable within the SMART Infrastructure Facility at the University of Wollongong and are available to both Australian and International Applicants.

Eligibility Criteria: Bachelors degree with at least Second Class Division 1 Honours or equivalent result
Selection Criteria: The academic merit, research potential, track record and capacity to work collaboratively in a cross disciplinary environment.
Stipend for 2011: $22,860 non-taxable
Stipend for 2012: to be determined December 2011
Other Benefits: Thesis allowance and contribution, of up to $10,000 for a study visit at one of SMART’s national or international partner institutions.
Eligible Programs: Ph D degrees
Duration: Three (3) years full-time
Closing Date: 17 October 2011, it is envisaged that successful applicants will start their studies in Autumn Session 2012.

Although they are not eligible for a scholarship, we encourage practitioners from industry or government interested in a part-time Ph. D to consider studying at the SMART Infrastructure Facility at the University of Wollongong.
