Working with government and industry

The SMART Infrastructure Facility has a strong outward focus.
SMART is committed to and connected with government and industry to be a compelling research and commercial partner that will solve real-life infrastructure challenges for future generations.
SMART is currently engaged in a series of major research projects with government and industry.
For example, SMART is modelling a city precinct to deliver new insights into the complex interplay between transport infrastructure, land use and liveability. This model will be used to identify possible tipping points where people choose to switch from using private motor vehicles to public transport.
SMART is also engaged with commercial partners to build complex models and simulations of infrastructure networks, such as freight corridors, to demonstrate different ‘what if scenarios’ to see the possible social and physical impacts of a proposal or activity.
Infrastructure interdependencies
Governments and industry face the challenge of modernising the fundamental structures and choosing between different options to invest limited funds for infrastructure development. SMART’s models assist decision makers to deliver integrated and seamless infrastructure services to business and the community because the show the complex web of infrastructure interdependencies and their interaction with people and communities.

SMART can extend infrastructure simulation and analytic capabilities beyond threat scenarios to include optimisation and decision making scenarios that enable effective infrastructure planning and analysis.
