Mr Andrew McCusker

Andrew McCusker, the recently retired director of operations for the globally respected Hong Kong Mass Transit Railways Corporation has been appointed to establish a new railway research initiative at the SMART Infrastructure Facility, University of Wollongong.

Andrew has more than forty years of senior industry experiences within Defence, Water, Gas, Power and Railway. Over the last 24 years he has worked at MTR Corporation Hong Kong, recognised as one of the world’s leading railway companies, and for the last five years has been their Operations Director. At MTR he held a number of key positions including as Executive Director of MTR Hong Kong, Chairman of NP360 Cable Car, Chairman of Telecoms provider TraxComm HK and a Board member of Octopus Ltd HK. Andrew remains a board member of Metro Trains Melbourne.

Andrew is past President and driving force in the establishment of the CoMET Group (an international benchmarking forum of the world’s top metro rail companies) and received recognition in Australia in 2007 when he was awarded the Australian Asset Management Council’s Steve Maxwell Leadership Award.

In his period as chief engineer of the State Power Authority in the Middle East he effected a turn round from endemic brown outs of the power and water system to raising the Bahrain system to achieving international standards.
