SMART National Data Centre

smart-network-with-pacemaker

The SMART National Data Centre's purpose is to be a national repository of infrastructure data. The Centre will provide an e-research capability and collaboration platform for infrastructure planners, designers and researchers.

The Data Centre will help to improve planning and management of infrastructure projects and systems, including deepening our understanding of urban and regional development and modelling future growth of Australian metropolitan and regional communities.

The Centre will  house a range of data sets from key industry partners, such as for example the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Integral Energy and GeoSciences Australia. The data sets will be mapped spatially and overlaid upon each other to provide a visual representation and quantifiable/statistical assessment for scenario analysis

The Centre’s mountain of data will help to take the guesswork out of infrastructure design and planning. It can be used on any scale or combination, applied selectively, or used in isolation for modelling and analysis that will also help to ensure more evidence based infrastructure design and planning.

Importantly, through national collaborations with key institutions SMART will provide better access to IT and in doing so  simplify the use of instruments, data and computational applications.
