Multi-Disciplinary Nature of SMART Infrastructure Facility
SMART is a physical grouping of real world new laboratories in Engineering, ICT and Science integrated by the Simulation Centre (the “hub”).
Each of the laboratories (“spokes”) are being designed to focus on infrastructure issues and to complement each other. They will share the hub’s simulation capabilities and, through it, link into the capabilities of other teaching/research laboratories within the facility.
Collaborating partners will link into the SMART structure as if they were another teaching/research “spoke”.
Centralised storage of data, multiple spoke access and inter-dependent modelling capabilities will ensure that SMART projects have a multi-disciplinary outlook.
Critical to this model is the integration of the spokes with the hub through physical proximity.
This will ensure that there is true integration of teaching and research across disciplines and that these act in a synergistic and interactive way on a day-to-day basis.
